Bimbo launches the world’s largest bread distributor in Mexico

The objective with this project is to improve productivity and increase logistics capacity and distribution efficiency.

The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador;  and the Head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum;  during the inauguration of a Bimbo distribution center in Mexico City.

Grupo Bimbo has launched the Metropolitano distribution center, a new center in Mexico City where they have invested 2,720 million Mexican pesos (112.6 million euros), has an area of ​​89,000 square meters and “is the largest and most modern of its kind in the baking industry in the world,” as reported by the company in a statement.

During the construction and installation phase of the center, which lasted 18 months, generated more than 1,700 jobs and currently employs more than 500 people.

The company explained that of the 89,000 square meters, one third (38,799 square meters), have been allocated to operational areas, while the remaining 29,000 square meters will be reserved for green areas.

The objective of the company with this project is improve productivity and increase logistics capacity and efficiency in distribution.

Thus, the center will attend different distribution channels such as self-services, convenience stores and special channels, both in the metropolitan area of ​​Mexico City and in the center and south of the country, such as the entities of Morelos and Guerrero.

The president and CEO of Bimbo, Daniel Servitje, highlighted during his speech the company’s support for the Mexican people and for consumers and producers in the countryside. “Grupo Bimbo will always be with Mexico, with investment, with ethics, with employment and sustainability. We are a company committed to our beloved country and to nurturing a better world ”, highlighted Servitje.

For his part, López Obrador influenced the importance of “working together” the public, private and social sectors. “Those three engines are those that allow for economic growth so that, at the same time, there are jobs, and we also have well-being, peace and tranquility in our country,” added the Aztec leader, who stressed the importance of private investment for the development of the country.

For her part, the Head of Government of Mexico City congratulated the company for the investment made in the city. “We thank you very much for continuing to bet on Mexico City. They had the opportunity to take this investment elsewhere, but we coordinated with the mayor’s office so that it would stay here, “said Sheinbaum
