Carrefour signs the first of twelve agreements with the fishing sector in 2021

Carrefour has ratified with the brotherhood of Santoña the first of the twelve agreements that it will implement in 2021, with the aim of eliminating the uncertainty of the auction price by ensuring the fishermen prices that allow the sustainability of the fleet. At the same time, these types of purchase commitments allow the company to offer a stable price to customers, the company reported on Monday.

The executive director of Carrefour Spain, Alexandre de Palmas, the president of the brotherhood of the Santoña fish market, Miguel Fernández, and the general secretary of the Santoña fish market, Luis Herrera, have signed the agreement to market the mackerel from this Cantabrian port.

The commitment contemplates that during the coastal mackerel campaign, from March 1 to April 30, 2021, the distribution company supplies this fish to its establishments in Cantabria, Catalonia and Madrid.

Alexandre de Palmas recalled that Carrefour has reinforced its commitment to the Spanish fishing sector at a delicate moment for this group and has underlined that the signed agreement is “a commitment to purchase at stable prices that contributes to the viability of the fishing sector and guarantees the best offer to our customers.”

The first manager of Carrefour Spain has announced that the agreement with the brotherhood of Santoña It is the first of the twelve that the chain is going to sign for a year with different ports in the Spanish fishing sector.

“This type of agreements and support are examples of our mission to lead the food transition, ensuring quality for our customers and sustainability in all links in the chain,” stressed De Palmas.

Carrefour already has previous successful experiences with the Santoña brotherhood, where it ensured stability in the price of the products. The company works with more than 60 local fish markets that “supply, every day, the freshest assortment on the market to the chain’s stores throughout Spain.”
