He takes over as non-executive chairman from Pedro González Grau, while Lluís Alsina will be managing director.
Joan Maria Nin takes over from Pedro González Grau like new non-executive chairman of the Morabanc board of directors. It will be effective from May 1, 2021. The appointment has already been approved by the Andorran Financial Authority (AFA) and has received the approval of the bank’s shareholders’ meeting.
González Grau closes a seven-year stage at Morabanc, first as CEO and, in the last three years, as president.
In the new government structure of Morabanc, Lluís Alsina enters as director general manager and accesses the board replacing Joan Quera, who is ending his mandate. Alsina thus assumes the role of CEO, first executiveor the Morabanc group.
In this way, Morabanc completes the process of renewing its corporate governance structures, “following the best practices in the sector”, it says in a statement, after the recent additions of the independent directors José Manuel Lara and Gilbert Saboya. The board of directors is made up of five independent directors, three proprietary directors and one executive director.
Nin, 68, has been CEO of Santander Central Hispano (1980-2002), CEO of Banco Sabadell (2002-2007), CEO of La Caixa (2007-2011) and Vice Chairman and CEO of CaixaBank, Criteria and La Caixa Foundation (2011-2014).
He is currently a member of different boards of directors such as Itínere Infraestructuras, Promociones Habitat and Société Générale.
The board and the shareholders’ meeting “thank the outgoing president, Pedro González Grau, for his commitment to the entity, his vision and leadership and the excellent results obtained during his years of dedication to the bank”, these bodies point out in the statement.
